Monday Morning Coffee: Wheatland, Iowa Walkabout

Wheatland is a city in Clinton County, Iowa.  It was platted in 1858 and is named for President James Buchanan's estate Wheatland in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

In 2000 the population was 772, in 2010 there were 764 and 751 in 2013.  This a decrease of 2.7% since 2000.

On entering the city from the North is what remainds of the Wheatland City Hotel.

Along the street and not far from the hotel is the Wheatland Florist with an rather unusually decorated vehicle.

Wheatland, like many small communities across the Midwest, is not growing. Rather, it is in the process of slowly declining.
