It was 1985 when the film crew, Gene Hackman and other actors arrived in New Richmond. They were there to make a basketball film. Filmed, not on a sound stage, rather in a state in which basketball is revered as a religion.
New Richmond, Indiana. To film in this very small and rural community was not only unusual but an opportunity for the local people and landscape to be in the movies.
After finishing filming in New Richmond, the production moved to a Knightstown gym to film basketball action.
Knightstown, Indiana.
The location contained a typical small Indiana basketball court.
Signage was added
and it became the home of the Hickory.
Today, in addition to providing local teams a place to play basketball, it also serves as a community center.
