Paulding was a planned community, founded in 1848 at the center of the county, and named after the county by speculators who expected to profit by moving the county seat.
In 1851, the county seat was moved from Charloe, which had been the county seat for a decade.
With a 2024 population of 3,523 Paulding is currently declining at a rate of -0.23% annually as its its population has decreased by -0.9% since the 2020 census, which recorded a population of 3,555.
Wandering off the main street on to an nearby alley, came across
a bit of long forgotten retail history - Ben Franklin.
