Beaufort is an unincorporated community in western Franklin County, Missouri.
The first settlement at Beaufort was made in 1849, but the entire town was moved to its present site in 1887 when the railroad was extended to that point. The community is named for Beaufort, South Carolina, the native home of an early postmaster.
Honold Hardware, now permanently closed,
had served the community for some100 years as an old fashioned hardware store specializing in hard to find items.
Midwest communities are not only losing people as local retail businesses as well, are being replaced by national companies.
