Elk Garden, West Virginia is a small rural community in Mineral County, with a population of 194 people, incorporated by the Mineral County Circuit Court in 1890 and named for a salty spring that attracted elk to the region.
Earlier, during the coronavirus outbreak, a meeting was held at the New Creek Gospel Hall that forced local religious leaders to rethink the way their congregation's worship. For some, this meant temporarily closing their doors.
As social distancing was critical to stopping the coronavirus spread, church services were especially risky because of older congregation's .
Those in attendance were told it wasn’t about a lack of faith - as God works through us. Just now, close for only two weeks.
As a result not all but many were closed.
