TGIF: Color Added To Monochrome Kit

The weather last couple days has been unusual for this time of the year - rather warm and sunny.  As promised, was able to pack up the new arrivals and head to the testing site.

Bit of background:

Earlier - on February 12 - posted about my preference for black & white photography that lead to obtaining a new recently available Pentax K3.III monochrome camera and matching lens.  The results from this new camera and lens combination have been better than expected.  So much so that, wondered if perhaps, a similar color combination might be worth obtaining.

Task 1:

Off to web land to discover what is available.  After reading ever so many reviews, decided that a Pentax color outfit would be good useful kit addition.

The color Pentax K3 III is the newest offering and would exactly match my monochome camera.  While new would be nice, it would be a financial stretch.  There are many used offerings which are priced almost as new.

Conclusion:

The addition of a new Pentax K3 III not a possibility at this time.

Task 2:

Get a cup of coffee, a slice fresh baked bread, fire up the computer and check out available used earlier editions of the Pentax K.

This could be a dark rabbit hole but if serious about adding to the kit, needs to be investigated.

Task 3:

After way too many cups of coffee and hours, found and ordered a used 2013 Pentax K-3 from Massachusetts and a 2010 Sigma 10- 20mm F3.5 Lens from Japan.

The 2013 Pentax K-3 equipped with a 2010 Sigma10 -20mm F3.5 Lens.

Final task:

After the orders arrived, were unpacked, battery charged, camera settings selected, took the Pentax K3 with the Sigma lens to the usual test site and photographed.

  Richmond, Indiana.

Taken with the lens set at 20mm, which is equivalent to 30mm in a 35mm camera.

Final thoughts:

The 2013 Pentax K3 together with the 2010 Sigma lens - both used and dated - produce sharp, clear very acceptable results.

In an earlier blog post, concluded that the results from a 2011 Panasonic G3 and a 2017 Panasonic G9 weren't all that different.

Once again the latest new shinny bright thing is not all that different an older version. YMMV
