Monday Morning Coffee: Sheldon, Illinois

Yard work yesterday along with a couple of hours of walking  caused a postponed posting.  While it's Tuesday, just pretend it's Monday and all will be fine.

Earlier this Fall made a brief stop in Sheldon, Illinois. The village had a population of 1170 as of July 2015.  This a decrease of about  16% since 2000.

Along the Main street , Rosie's

and the Sumner National Bank.

Comparing Sheldon to the Illinois state average:

Median house value, unemployed percentage, Black and Hispanic race population percentage, foreign-born population percentage and  percentage of population with a Bachelors degree or higher are all significantly below state average.

Number of college students below state average.

Length of stay since moving in, house age and institutionalized population percentage above state average.

As evidence of the hard times across the Midwest:

Percentage of Sheldon residents living in poverty in 2013 was 26.5%.

27.1 % for White Non- Hispanic residents and 16.7% for Hispanic or Latino residents.
