TGIF: Swayne - Robinson & Co. in 1999

A brief return to March, 1999.

  Richmond, Indiana.

Swayne - Robinson & Co. was an iron and aluminum casting factory founded in 1842 by Francis W. Robinson.  The company operated until 1997, when it closed and its owners filed for bankruptcy.

A fire in 1999 destroyed a third of the building.  In June 2000. Wayne County purchased the property.

It is now the current site of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Correctional Center - aka Jail.

Until it closed, Swayne - Robinson & Co. was the oldest family - owned business in America.
