Monday Morning Coffee: This Is Not Texas

Photographing in Dallas City, Illinois was very difficult and emotional.  This is a city that appears to be having a very hard time.

Dallas City is a city that had a population of 945 at the 2010 census, a decline from 1,055 in 2000.

Compared to Illinois state average:
  • Median household income below state average.
  • Median house value significantly below state average.
  • Black race population percentage significantly below state average.
  • Hispanic race population percentage significantly below state average.
  • Median age above state average.
  • Foreign-born population percentage significantly below state average.
  • Renting percentage below state average.
  • Length of stay since moving in significantly above state average.
  • House age above state average.

A building in the center of the city is a boarded limestone building.

A bit off the main street is a closed school.

The corner stone provides a clue to its history.

Towards the river and along the railroad tracks, is what once was a Ford dealership.

Times are difficult throughout the Midwest and this city is one of the hardest hit.
