Fred Gennett was in charge of the Gennett Records division of the Starr Piano family business.

Historically, Gennett Records is renowned for its early jazz, blues, and hillbilly music.
Recording jazz musicians, including Louis Armstrong. Jelly Roll Morton with the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Bix Beiderbecke and Lil Armstrong.
Gennett also recorded blues musicians including Thomas Dorsey, hillbilly Gene Autry and Lawrence Welk.
