Last weekend walked briefly a bit in Redkey. Often just pass thru on way to a location further northwest.
Originally the Wade Settlement, platted as Mt. Vernon, renamed Redkey in 1856 and incorporated in 1883. Redkey grew alongside the railroads and industries that shaped much of Indiana's early economic boom.
Over the years the population has had its up's and down's.
In 1900 it was 2206. In 1920 it was 1386. In 1940 it was 1583. In 1960 it was 1746. In 1980 it was 1537. In 2020 it was 1100.
Now, the last time spent any amount of time in Redkey was in 2012.
On my previous visit, the town was down but not completely out.
Thru-out the town the were a number of early product ad's painted on brick walls.

to discover Papa's Pizzeria and the railroad tracks that pass thru the town.
On this 2025 visit, walked across the tracks to photograph the Coca Cola sign along with the building front.
