Monday Morning Coffee: The Times, They Have Changed

Self driving semi-trucks - aka 18 wheedlers - along with self driving cars are being road tested. There seems to be a rather large shortage of available truck drivers.  This short fall is growing as more and more freight is transferred on highways along with a number of drivers slated to retire in the near future.

This freight trucking growth implies that less and less moves by rail.  Freight trains are bound to travel by fixed established rail lines that led to unchanging locations.

Trucks, not bound to a given road, are able to change their destinations as the need arises.

As a sidebar to this, is the decay and demise of the railroad freight station.  As the need for working freight trains decreases along with the elimination of established routes, unneeded rails are removed.

Often left behind are the now unused freight stations.

   Richmond, Indiana.

Once a proud, strong and well designed limestone building has now become a slowly decaying ruin.
