Near Or Far?

For a photographer an important question is where to stand to record a scene.  For a portrait the position is often near.  This helps to eliminate the extraneous and allows a viewer to concentrate on the subject.

Presentation as a portrait, separated from its local environment, this structure with its rather elaborate bit of brickwork, stands out.

By moving a little further away, including the building along with surrounding elements provides a sense of place.

Far suggests the local environment provides an additional  key to understanding.
