Monday Morning Coffee: The Back 27

Wandering about in Decatur came across a sign for the Back 27 - offering a miniature golf course along with ice cream and food.

   Decatur, Indiana.

Both Route 66 and Old 27 were built in the same year - 1927.

Route 66 was the east-west highway to go from Chicago to Los Angeles and Old 27 was the north-south highway from Cheboygan to Miami, Florida.  Later it was extended to Mackinaw City and St.Ignace.

One of the greatest achievements for US-27 was being the first route designation to cross the Mackinac Bridge when it opened in November 1957.

From Cheboygan and Lansing, Michigan the road led to such cities and towns as Fort Wayne and Richmond, Indiana; Oxford, Cincinnati, Ohio; Lexington, Kentucky; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Rome, Columbus,Georgia; Tallahassee; ending in Miami, Florida.
