A bit of review about the community. Union City is a city located in Randolph County Indiana.
With a 2020 population of 3,402 it is currently declining at a rate of -0.56% annually and has decreased by -5.08% since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 3,584 in 2010.
Union City reached it's highest population of 4,047 in 1960.
On a beautiful sunny day in February 2020 discovered some ongoing construction on Trokey Block.
After returning home, a quick bit on google produced the following statement from mayor Chad Spence:
"A revitalized downtown as a place to do business and symbol of a resurgent Union City. This objective is my highest single focus because it is central to and improved economic climate for all of us."
On Sunday August 1, 2021, returned to Union City, Indiana to check out the proposed revitalization.
First stop was a view of the Trokey Block.
The exterior work on the lower far right appears to be completed. The left side is pretty much as before.
Check back in the coming days to view other examples of the downtown revitalization.
Note: The smoke from the Western and Canadian wild fires is moving eastward across the country producing hazy skies and muted colors.
