Monday Morning Coffee: Departures From Reality

Been a hazy, hot  and humid week here at the World Headquarters of My Midwest.  Not inviting weather to be out and about on a photo walkabout.  Rather a fine time to be inside learning new skills and improving old ones.

Spent much of the allotted photography time on improving black and white digital captures.  If questioned as which is preferred - color or black and white - would choose the monochrome black and white.

Let me explain my choice.  With few exceptions digital cameras are used as color collection instruments and assuming the camera operator is knowledgeable, the camera becomes a tool that accurately records what it sees.  That is,  photography takes a 3-dimenisonal world and presents 2-demenisonial representation.

My choice would be to continue this abstraction of reality further by rendering the scene in black and white.

For example, consider

    Richmond, Indiana.

A rather accurate photographic presentation of color, building material and signage of the location.

Consider a Black and white representation.

   Richmond, Indiana.

What now stands out - for me - are the various architectural forms - squares, rectangles, triangles, curves - and tones from light to dark.

No the black and white presentation is not reality but neither is the color presentation.  YMMV.
