Monday Morning Coffee: Reality And Illusion

Illusion cannot exist independently of reality.  Illusion is a phenomenon involving our perception of reality, whether it is a “true” representation of that reality or not.

What you see when looking depends on your experience and means of expression including available tools.

For photography what you see is the now.  Not the past or the future but the present.  Expression is limited by a medium that takes a two dimensional form of presentation of a three dimensional reality.  The final result may not actuality show size and texture of the original.

Photographers equipment include cameras, lenses, light sensitive equipment and materials.

Photographers plan the form of final presentation taking viewing lighting and material surfaces into account.

A mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other permanent surfaces.  While expression is also limited by a medium that takes a two dimensional form of presentation of a three dimensional reality, a distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture.

Muralists develop mural concepts that tell a story or highlight a specific element of an organization, neighborhood or idea.

Muralists plan mural placement, taking building elements like lighting and surfaces into account while deciding on a location.

Muralists materials can include paint, rollers, and brushes, as well as any equipment that the muralist needs to access harder-to-reach areas. They may require scaffolding and safety equipment, ladders, and drop cloths to prepare the area for painting.
