Folks Along The Way V

Up early on this day and traveled to the Topaz Relocation Center Site.  Topaz was one of 10 relocation centers constructed in the United States during World War II for the purpose of detaining Japanese Americans and people of Japanese descent.  At its peak, it housed over 8,000 internees.

After arriving, spent the morning wandering and photographing the remaining building foundations, sandy roads and gravel walkways.

As the morning ended, decided it was time to pack up and search for a shady place for lunch.

Just as I was about to load up the truck, noticed a trail of airborne dust and a vehicle coming down the entry road. Stopped loading and decided to wait and see who was coming.

Car came to a halt in the parking area, two people got out and began approaching.  We greeted and introduced ourselves.  In short order they explained they were on vacation and were seeking closure to an event that had deeply marked their lives.

Kay and Kim

For you see, Kay and Kim were both interned at Topaz for a time during the Second World War.
