TGIF: Amish Bicycles

In the last few years a number of Amish families have moved from the East and settled in Wayne County, Indiana.

There are a number of reasons for this migration.  Farm land in their home state seldom is available for purchase and if so, often rather expansive.  Amish families are often rather large and as the children age, marry and have families of their own the need to provide for them is difficult.  Farm land in Indiana is available and priced lower than in the East.

Arriving, they are welcomed by the local population for they  purchase, restore and farm the land.  Additionally, arriving along with farm families are new businesses to support and provide goods and services unique to the Amish lifestyle.

Attending a whole town yard sale - it's an Indiana Thing - came across these bicycles.

   Williamsburg, Indiana.

More like a scooter rather than a bike. With no gears, pedals and sometimes no brakes they offer a different way of cycling.
