TGIF: Thank You, Adair

In the Spring of 2001 slowly crossed the United States following US Route 50 by truck with a slide-in camper.

Beginning on the Atlantic coast in Atlantic City and ending on the Pacific coast in San Fransisco. Stopping often, to photograph the changing natural landscape, local people and regional architecture.

Returning home, after reviewing a rather large collection of photographs, selected fifty for an exhibition entitled 50 / 50 -
50 images along US Route 50.

The homeward trip, for the most part, was a quick journey on interstate highways.  The last night on the road was a stop in Adair, Iowa.

After setting up for night, picked up a camera and took a bit of city walkabout. Now Adair, an exit on Interstate 80, is not all that different from what was found along route 50 as the population in 2000 was 839.

   Adair, Iowa.

Wandering the city streets, came to the realization, while crossing the country was exciting, interesting and informative, that the Midwest offers equal visual opportunities. I had discovered my next project - My Midwest.

Thanks to a overnight stop in a small Iowa community, the years following have been spent visiting and photographing  similar Midwest locations.
