Reheated Monday Morning Coffee: Bread & New Tool
While normally post on Monday, this weeks Monday was rather busy with several other tasks.
First off, there was the bit of providing breakfast food for the coming days. Now coffee is a given and there was a sufficient supply to cover our needs.
However, the other necessary - bread for toast - was missing. With the "shelter in place" , if possible, grocery stores are to be avoided.
In the previous week, in checking out the pantry, discovered flour but no yeast. What now? Contacted a nearby relative and explained the problem. She responded that, while her family didn't use a lot of bread, would check her supplies to see there was any yeast. Texted later, to say found some, use before December 2014, in their freezer and would pass it on to me. Because of expired date, no assurance that it would work.
It arrived and immediately set out to build a sourdough starter. This takes several days of feeding the aging mixture of flour and water. Even with the expired date, the yeast was working.
On Monday, working with a ripe starter, started mixing the necessary ingredients, waiting for the mixture to grow and finally baking the bread. This is not a rather quick process, as it takes several hours to move from starter to baked loaf and by late afternoon, had fresh bread.
Because of the lockdown, traveling about the Midwest is not recommended. Walking nearby for exercise is approved but except for medicine and food you should not be far from home.
Now walking with Liah is alright. As we move about the neighborhood, I come upon locations that would produce photographs. Along with Liah at the end of short leash, moving every which way, carrying and using a rather big and heavy camera is out of the question.
Searched the internet for a camera the would work. Found one that would solve the problem.
Roberts in Indy was offering an open box sale on a Panasonic ZS70 outfit at 1/3 the cost of a new one and cheaper than a used one offered elsewhere.
Arrived last Friday, along with the ongoing bread making, been reading the manual, choosing among the many options and setting the selected ones. Now will be able to walk Liah and quickly capture a scene.
Take care, be safe and remain isolated.
